A FUTURISTIC & AMBITIOUS BUILDING

Koffi & Diabaté, the prominent Ivorian architectural cabinet known for their sustainable vision of urban development in Africa, has developed the new Orange headquarters in Abidjan. This innovative structure joins numerous modern buildings developed in the Ivorian capital, such as the new exhibition center. The innovative building was part of the shortlist for the 2022 World Architecture Festival.

A LAYERED FUTURISTIC HUB

Appointed following a call for tenders on a project design competition, the duo of Ivorian architects created an original office building at the heart of the capital. They chose a round form with at least 7 levels, a 68-meter-diameter ring-shaped design wrapped in a unique double-skin structure. Set on an 18 181 m² plot, the construction is all about layers, with a window facade, a white protective system, and a terraced building.

Futuristic, the impressive circular edifice is dressed in a white facade perforated by little round holes similar to golf balls, reminding the renowned 'Ivoire Golf Club' nearby.

Sustainability is at the heart of Koffi & Diabaté's vision of the future and plays a significant role in their architectural approach. This new creation is no exception; Orange Village has a high environmental quality approach, focusing on reducing energy consumption. Beyond its distinctive aesthetic appeal, this curved, golf-ball-inspired structure also serves as a passive protection against sunlight.

The 4000-piece, 40 000 m2 double-skin structure limits the heat from outside. Several plants adorn the facade, fences, and terraces, adding a green touch to the primarily white building. With a panoramic view of the Ebrié Laguna, this green edifice gives the Riviera Bay an additional touch of modernity.

RIVIERA GOLF CLUB

The first stone was laid in January 2017 for the 5-year construction of this new Orange headquarters. For Orange, the building aims at fostering collaborative work and well-being for the leading operator in the telecom industry. Functional and spacious, the structure combines flexible and efficient office space with generous circulation areas, places of life, and collaborative work.

Inside, the design focuses on transparency and minimalism with large bay windows and bare concrete walls. The building includes an atrium, a conference center, and meeting rooms. Large open spaces, smaller gathering areas, or individual cabins punctuate the different floors. A restaurant, outdoor spaces, and a gym have also been added to ensure employees' well-being.

Inaugurated in January 2022 in the commune of Cocody, the new building marks a renewal for the company and a new direction for the city, which wants to position itself as a global business capital. Innovative, just like the future ambitions of the leading operator in the telecom industry in West Africa, the office has a 14,440 m² of built-up area for over 900 employees.

Futuristic but rooted in its environment, ample space has been given to the Ivorian culture: a central garden is the source of natural light for all the floors, and Bogolan-inspired forms have been placed on the building's facade in the courtyard side, reminding the handmade cotton fabric dyed traditionally with fermented mud.

In addition, a series of artworks by local artists decorate the walls of the VIP lounge and management offices, and the names of the Ivorian regions or cultural groups have been integrated into the design and signals of every room, illustrating the group's long and robust local anchoring.

Located in the affluent area of Riviera Golf, on the edge of the Laguna Ebrié, a neighborhood surrounded by embassies, corporations, and international schools, the new, modern office building reflects Orange's ambitions for the region. Through the design approach, Orange Village seeks to highlight the urban landscape of Abidjan, becoming a reference building that structures, organizes, and sheds light on the Riviera Golf neighborhood's urban master plan park.

This building is the first step of Orange Village, a larger complex that includes an urban park and a multifunctional green public space with play and relaxation areas to promote sport, health, and well-being for the Riviera Golf inhabitants.

AN AMBITIOUS AGENCY & CITY

Created in 2001, the 50+ employees agency has increased its visibility in the past years to position itself as one of the top agencies in the Western region.

This new construction is an occasion for the architectural studio to showcase its expertise and take a further step toward imposing its vision of sustainable urban development in Africa and contributing to making Abidjan the leading business city in West Africa.

Already winners of a Masterwork competition for this construction, the agency's creation has been selected among over a hundred applicants to present their project at the 15th edition of the World Architecture Festival, the largest global architecture event. The international festival combines awards, seminars, and networking and has a unique live-judged awards program. The two architects presented their creations and represented Côte d'Ivoire in the « WAF Completed Buildings: Office » and « Engineering Prize Shortlist » sections, providing a global audience for African architecture.
